Cute enough to look good, but forgiving enough to flatter almost any figure, the swim skirt is an important addition to any vacation time wardrobe. How on earth did we ever manage to live without them?
How to wear them?
Because swim skirts tend to be very short and flared, they should always be worn over bikini bottoms as opposed to instead of them. They can also be worn over the top of a one piece swimsuit or tankini, and will look equally good with either.
These are the types of skirts most of us wouldn't dream of wearing anywhere other than at the beach. Most swim skirts will hit at mid-thigh level, or shorter, leaving most of the legs exposed. While they'd be just a little bit too short to be decent in a nightclub or restaurant, on a beach filled with thong bikinis and tiny one pieces, the swim skirt looks positively modest.
Like most types of swimwear, swim skirts are designed to look good when worn with just a bikini top or other bathing suit. If you'd like to dress up a little for your vacation, though, they can look equally good with a little halter or vest top, flip flops or accessories such as sun hats and sunglasses.
Different styles of swim skirt
Considering they're really just small scraps of material designed to preserve your modesty while on the beach, you'd expect most swim skirts to look pretty much the same. Actually, there's a good variety of different styles to choose from. The standard A-line pull-on skirt dominates many collections, but you'll also find more flared versions on offer, as well as straighter skirts, skirts with kick pleats or side-splits, and wrap skirts. There is really no excuse for not finding a style to suit!
There's also plenty of scope to experiment with color and fabric in your swim skirt, too. There's really no limit to the colors or patterns you'll find, and you can choose to either co-ordinate your skirt with your suit or bikini top, or go for a contrasting color or pattern. For the brave, we even managed to find this pink sequined swim skirt which could be just the thing for a summer pool party.
Swim skirts are wonderful for those who would like the convenience of a two piece but don't have the confidence to don a bikini. Swim skirts can be worn with longer tankini and halter tops, leaving no skin exposed.
